'This is the easiest decision of my life' | 'Good Burger 2' director previews long-awaited sequel

Set — and released — 26 years after the first film, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell's characters reunite at the iconic fast-food restaurant.

INDIANAPOLIS — We seem to be in the era of long-awaited sequels, such as "Top Gun: Maverick," "Mary Poppins Returns," "Hocus Pocus 2" and now "Good Burger 2."

Set — and released — 26 years after the first film, Dexter (Kenan Thompson) reunites with Ed (Kel Mitchell) at the iconic fast-food restaurant, with a hilarious new group of employees.

"I was a big fan of the original, and when they asked me about it, I was super excited, but I wanted to read the script," said director Phil Traill, who has directed episodes of "The Middle," "Modern Family," Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Black-ish." "The whole premise is fun. Kenan and Kel are back. This is the easiest decision of my life."

The original film had A-list celebrities as supporting characters, such as Shaquille O'Neal, Sinbad and Carmen Electra — and the sequel is no different, including former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski.

"We had so many incoming phone calls of people wanting to be part of it," Traill said. "Every day was like, 'Oh my gosh. Hi, Gronk!'"

"Good Burger 2" begins streaming Wednesday, Nov. 22 on Paramount+.
