INDIANAPOLIS — "Saturday Night Live" cast member Ego Nwodim's next role is in a major "ocean" picture event based on an Emmy-nominated preschool TV series.
In "Baby Shark's Big Movie!," the Shark family moves to the big city — away from Baby's best friend, William — as an evil pop starfish plans to steal Baby's gift of song to take over the entire ocean.
Nwodim voices Leah, who is Mommy Shark's best friend from college.
"I am introducing Baby Shark to this new city and the possibilities that are available to him and reminding Mommy Shark of just how much fun she and I had back in the day," Nwodim said. "Leah is truly this life-of-the-party auntie, and it was a blast to play her."
"Baby Shark" became popular in 2016 when Pinkfong released a YouTube video that now has more than 13 billion views.
"I have a 2-year-old niece who I was so excited to do this job just so that she would finally want to hang out with me and think I'm cool because she doesn't get to watch 'Saturday Night Live,'" Nwodim said. "I'm hoping it produces some sort of cool auntie points for me."
The 78-minute film features voice actors from "Baby Shark's Big Show!" — including Kimiko Glenn, Luke Youngblood, Natasha Rothwell and Patrick Warburton — as well as newbies to the franchise, like Ashley Tisdale, Chloe Fineman, Lance Bass, Offset and Cardi B.
"There's something in it for everyone. I know it feels like a children's movie and it is certainly for the kids, but I think it's for everybody," Nwodim said.
"Baby Shark's Big Movie!" debuts Friday, Dec. 8 on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.
