Beyoncé's childhood home catches fire on Christmas morning in Houston

When fire crews arrived at the scene, the family who lived in the home had already gotten out safely.

HOUSTON — The childhood home where Beyoncé grew up caught fire early Christmas morning, leaving the current family living there without a home, according to records.

Houston firefighters said they responded to a house fire just after 2 a.m. on Rosedale just east of Highway 288.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, the family who lived in the home had already gotten out safely, HFD District Chief Justin Barnes said. The fire was coming from the second floor of the home.

Nextdoor neighbor Jack May told KHOU 11 he saw the flames that morning and heard emergency responders cutting a hole in the roof of the home.

"My first thought was they have little children so we came out and there was no indication that there was any tragedy so we watched and prayed for the best," May said.

Firefighters were able to get to the fire quickly and no injuries were reported, however, at least one side of the home was severely damaged.

Even with debris outside and broken windows, the home may look familiar to some.

It's known to be the childhood home of Houston native Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The home has previously been featured in movies and documentaries that feature the megastar.

In September, Knowles-Carter herself was spotted with her mother Tina taking pictures in front of the home when they were in Houston for the Texas leg of the "Renaissance" world tour.

“We have Beyoncé tourists here all the time, it’s bizarre," May said. "This house was for sale in '93 which was when the Knowles moved out and we took a look at it but ultimately didn't go forward with it."

For the sake of the family living in the home, now displaced, May said he hopes the Christmas morning fire doesn't draw additional fanfare.

"Oh, I hope [it draws] less people - there’s nothing to see today that you couldn’t see yesterday or 6 months from now," he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
