Children's Museum of Indianapolis hosts 'Juneteenth Jamboree'

The museum says that since they are a place for learning, there is no better spot to have an event to educate the public about Juneteenth.

INDIANAPOLIS — As the month of June kicks off, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis is looking ahead to Juneteenth.

On Saturday, June 1, the museum hosted its annual "Juneteenth Jamboree" to help kids of all ages understand the importance of the holiday. The event featured all kinds of activities, such as a "Mural for Justice" and a community marketplace.

The museum says that since they are a place for learning, there is no better spot to have an event like this.

"It's a perfect chance here," said family learning navigator Erina Ludwig. "You know summer break is here so we can get people together and just have the opportunity to learn what Juneteenth is and enjoy and celebrate Juneteenth."

Anyone who missed the event can still see a piece of Juneteenth history around the city. Gowns worn by past Miss Indy Juneteenth winners will be on display all month.
