FRANKLIN, Ind. — With the upcoming total solar eclipse in central Indiana, interest in space is growing out of this world.
The Johnson County Public Library is hosting its "Space Day" to teach guests everything they want to know about outer space.
On Saturday, the celebration gave attendees the chance to see the galaxy and stars up close with the SkyDome Planetarium, a Mars Perseverance Rover presentation from the Purdue Space Program, a real space shuttle heat tile, NASA artifacts and more.
JPL children's programmer Monica McKeown said she created the excite the surrounding community for the upcoming eclipse and the science of space in general.
At the event, the JPL and Festival Country Indiana will give away 3,000 eclipse glasses at the event so that guests will be able to watch the solar event safely.
The celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mar. 2, at the Johnson County Armory (325 Minuteman Way) in Franklin.
