INDIANAPOLIS — Indy's Fourth Fest is making its return downtown for a second year.
The event will kick off at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4 at the Indiana War Memorial. It will feature a street festival and 20-minute fireworks show. The street festival starts at 6 p.m. with food trucks, ice cream stands, beverages and a Kids Zone.
“After an incredible year one, we are thrilled to bring back Fourth Fest for its second year. Attendees will see new programming, outstanding performances, and even more family-friendly entertainment – cementing Fourth Fest as a community-favorite downtown Indy tradition,” Taylor Schaffer, DII president and CEO, said. “We’ve been intentional in driving foot traffic to downtown with the introduction of the Fourth Fest street festival, showing great results with more than 23,000 attendees at last year’s event."
There will be a stage set up on North Street that will feature live musical performances in addition to pre-event interviews. The eight-piece pop, R&B and dance band Living Proof is set to headline alongside Latin-jazz and salsa artist Pavel & Direct Contact.
"We really wanted to up our game in terms of entertainment and activity and in ways for families to enjoy this space," Schaffer said.
Fireworks start at 10:15 p.m. at the top of the 500 North Meridian building. There will be viewing areas on the Indiana War Memorial Grounds and American Legion Mall.
Event officials said fireworks will be synced to "patriotic and themed music" aired on local radio stations, including La Grande 105.1, B105.7, 106.7 WTLC, WIBC 93.1 FM and Country 97.1 HANK FM.
This year's fireworks grand finale is presented by Indiana 529. Indy’s Fourth Fest is presented by UA Local 440.
IMPD will also up patrols through the area Thursday. Officers will patrol traffic and make sure people are able to enjoy the fireworks safely.
IMPD told 13News they will still enforce the downtown curfew and urge all parents to stay with their kids throughout the night. Basically, the juvenile curfew law for a Thursday night requires children 17 and under to be accompanied by a parent, guardian or custodian. There are other exceptions for children who are working or are part of an approved group activity.
"Downtown is not a place to come and drop your children off unsupervised, IMPD does not have the capacity to supervise your children," IMPD Deputy Chief of Operations Tonya Terry said. "We need parents and guardians to step up, know where your kids are, who they are with and what they are doing."
