INDIANAPOLIS — Highs rebound back above average for Sunday and Monday with highs in the 50s. Arctic air will then settle in starting Tuesday and will impact holiday plans.
THIS WEEKEND:
- Warm front lifts into the area later today
- Clouds will start to mix out as temperatures recover to the upper 40s — seasonal for this time of year
- Partly cloudy skies this evening and overnight, temperatures will fall back into the mid 30s
Sunday will be the warmest day in the extended forecast
- Warm air will take over for Sunday. Look for a cool morning warming back into the upper 50s for highs under a mix of sun and clouds
Next rain chance arrives by daybreak Monday
Our next weather system arrives late Sunday night and brings in stray rain showers into Monday morning with scattered rain continuing through the day Monday. We'll still be on the warm side of this weather system, which allows temperatures to recover to the mid 50s ahead of the cold front coming through late Monday night.
Arctic blast arrives Tuesday, cold snap for Thanksgiving holiday
Much cooler air returns by Tuesday as skies start to clear out. Highs Tuesday in the low 40s will kick off a stretch of below average temperatures, with highs only in the low 40s/upper 30s through the next weekend.
Mid-week storm system potential travel impacts
Confidence in this forecast remains low as there are several discrepancies from model to model and run to run of those outlooks. With that being said, it does look like a storm complex will emerge out of the west starting Wednesday which could impact holiday travel. Be prepared starting Wednesday for stray mixed showers in the morning, then scattered rain showers mainly south and mix showers north through Wednesday evening.
Thanksgiving looks mainly dry with the exception of a few lingering showers in the morning.
Colder extended forecast
Behind the Thanksgiving storm system will be a more quiet set-up, but also the risk of much colder air settling in from a Canadian air mass. The Climate Prediction Center gives central Indiana an 80% chance of below average temperatures through early next week.
