INDIANA, USA — It was the eighth week of the college football season in the state of Indiana. Three teams had the week off as both the Purdue Boilermakers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish had their bye weeks, leaving IU and Ball State as the lone Indiana-based FBS schools playing Saturday. The NAIA's Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats also had the week off and will look to continue their undefeated season next week when they travel up I-69 to play the St. Francis Cougars in Fort Wayne.
For Ball State, the Cardinals finally broke a four-game losing streak with a big win over Mid-America Conference rival Central Michigan. Meanwhile, the Indiana Hoosiers just could not get anything going offensively and dropped their fifth game of the season to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Meanwhile, in FCS, the Indiana State Sycamores remained winless after dropping their homecoming game to South Dakota. The Valparaiso Beacons are still looking for their first win since the end of September after falling to Davidson on Saturday.
In Division II, the UIndy Greyhounds continued their undefeated season with a win over Quincy. The Greyhounds are currently ranked 11th in the Division II coaches poll.
Once again, the top Indiana teams in Division III showed their dominance. The DePauw Tigers hung on to their undefeated season, moving to 8-0 with a narrow overtime victory over Wittenberg. Heartland Conference rivals Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers and the Franklin Grizzlies squared off in Franklin with Rose-Hulman putting up 50 points over the Grizzlies.
Rose-Hulman hoped to jump into a tie for first place in the conference standings with the win, but Ohio's Mt. St. Joseph handed the Hanover Panthers their second loss of the season to keep the top spot in the standings.
The Trine Thunder and Wabash Little Giants both won their fifth games of the season with respective wins over Albion and Kenyon.
Winless seasons continued for the Anderson Ravens and Manchester Spartans on Saturday. Both teams hold 0-7 records and have two more games each before they meet for the Bronze Ball Game on Nov. 11.
In the NAIA, the Marian University Knights took down the St. Francis Cougars in the Franciscan Bowl. The win was Marian's sixth straight victory in the series and also moved the Knights to 7-0. They'll play the Taylor Trojans in Upland at 1 p.m. next week. Taylor will have some momentum heading into that game as the Trojans won their first game since August on Saturday.
