Carmel Swim Club athletes chase Olympic dreams

Carmel Swim Club has two Olympians in its history. Will there be more this week?

CARMEL, Ind — There are 12 Indiana swim clubs represented at this year's U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, and a big one is Carmel's.

Several swimmers are ready to chase their Olympic dreams right here in Indianapolis.

"This is amazing to have this sport, swimming in a football stadium," said Chris Plumb, head coach at Carmel Swim Club. "It's just ... it's unbelievable, and we're so excited for it."

With the swim trials on a national stage for more than a week, the exposure is sure to elevate the sport.

"Well, it means that we've arrived. Like, in swimming, we thought it was cool to be in a basketball stadium, but hey, now we're in a football stadium, so it's just awesome for our sport," Plumb said.

"We're planning on it," Plumb said. "No pressure. You know, we're just gonna have fun, swim fast and use this crowd energy, the home crowd, you know, come cheer us. I'm looking for us to really bring it, and we're gonna see what happens every night," Plumb said.

Carmel Swim Club has eight athletes in the upcoming U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. Plumb talked about the process of keeping them focused in this big moment.

"Well, the good thing is we've had a lot of practice," Plumb said. "Last year, nationals here in 2023, we had Alex Shackell make it, Andrew Kibler, so rehearsing that, going through those moments and just trust your training when it counts."
