NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) - Courtney Cox Cole, who gained fame as a multi-sport high school standout at Noblesville High School and Indiana University, and more recently in ownership role with Hare Chevrolet, died Sunday of lung cancer at age 48.
"Indiana Women's Basketball and Indiana Women's Golf are mourning the loss of alum Courtney Cox Cole, who passed away on Sunday in Noblesville at the age of 48 after a courageous battle with cancer," was posted on the Indiana Women's basketball web page Sunday night.
The Facebook page "Team Courtney Strong" posted about her battle with lung cancer and eventual passing at home under hospice care Sunday.
"Our sincerest sympathies are with the family of Courtney Cox Cole. I played against Courtney in both high school and college and remember her as a fierce competitor. She took that same attitude as she battled cancer for the last six years. Courtney remained positive throughout her fight and became an inspiration to so many. History will remember her as one of Indiana's all-time greatest, but more importantly she will be remembered as a genuine, funny, successful business woman and as a loving mother, daughter and sister." -Teri Moren
She is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
Cole also teamed with sister Monica Peck on broadcast advertising spots for their co-owned car dealership under the tagline "Sisters of Savings."
