BOULDER, Colo. (WTHR) — While plenty of people turn up there noses, a small group in Boulder, Colorado swears by the health benefits of using their own urine to treat medical conditions.
The Urine Therapy of Colorado hosts gatherings for people to explore, learn about and support others drinking urine or using it as a topical treatment.
Christopher Macor told NBC affiliate 9News he turned to urine therapy when nothing else would help the eczema on his hands. The moment he began soaking them in his urine, the eczema went away.
Another member, Indira Bhatt Gupta, said she has been using urine to treat ailments since 1983.
“In the morning that is the first thing I do," she said. "Let some part go, take the middle part, put it in my eyes, put it in my face, and just have some Chai in the morning."
They've completely bought into the treatment, but Dr. Comilla Sasson said there's no scientific evidence to prove it's helpful, and it could, in fact, be harmful because of the bacteria. Macor said urine therapy works if people shift their perception on it.
