SAN FRANCISCO — Don’t want to run to the post office to send letters to Santa? No time to have dad or grandpa pretend to be ol' Saint Nick on a phone call? OpenAI rolled out a new feature Thursday allowing users to speak to an artificial intelligence Father Christmas.
Those using ChatGPTs voice mode will be able to ask “Santa” questions about his life at the North Pole, how he prepares for Christmas and much more… Or just have its Advanced Voice Mode sound like Santa for the rest of the month.
Speaking with Santa will create temporary chats which won't save or affect the model's memory. Santa will not remember what he was previously told if a new chat is started.
ChatGPT voice chats are offered to Plus, Pro and Team users with a 15 minute a month limit to free users. The company says users who have already exceeded their limits will get one reset to speak to Santa. Those who exceed that limit again can continue speaking to Santa in standard voice.
Monthly subscriptions can cost users anywhere from $20 a month to $200 a month depending on the plan.
Users can activate Santa Mode by clicking on the snowflake icon in ChatGPT, which should appear to the right of the text and/or prompt bar, by choosing the Santa voice in settings, or inside Voice Mode through the voice picker in the upper right corner.
In this mode, the usual black and gray voice mode bubble will be replaced with a blue and white snowy scape that sort of looks like a snow globe.
In its 12 Days of OpenAI: Day 6 announcement video, the company said the feature is available on mobile and desktop apps, as well as desktop web. The feature is still being rolled out and may need time to reach your device.
The feature will be available through the rest of December, so get ready to hear many "ho ho ho's" because Santa likes to talk a lot.
