INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Work is underway on a new park on the southwest side.

Crews started building a pocket park in the Mars Hill neighborhood Saturday.

Contributions from local businesses made the project possible.

Workers are now turning what was an old asphalt lot across from the Community Caring and Sharing Center into a park.

Mayor Joe Hogsett joined them to help and he explained what he hopes will occur once the pocket park is complete.

“It really will help transform this part of Wayne and Decatur Township, even though it's not a big city park.”

The project is all part of the "It's My City” initiative designed to get the local community involved in cleaning up their own neighborhoods.
