WEST LAFAYETTE - One of Purdue University's top marketing officials is resigning, although she said her decision isn't related to public criticism of the school's new advertising campaign and mascot redesign.
Rwitti Roy told the Journal & Courier that she was resigning as Purdue's senior director of brand and advertising effective at the end of May to spend more time with her toddler-age son and start up her own marketing-related company.
Purdue's marketing efforts were disparaged after campus officials launched the "Makers, All" branding campaign last fall and unveiled a new Purdue Pete mascot in April for Boilermaker sports teams. The "Makers, All" campaign continues, but the new Purdue Pete was shelved.
Purdue vice president Teri Lucie Thompson said Roy had done an excellent job since moving into the marketing position in 2009.
