MARION, Ind. — The Grant County Coroner's Office confirmed skeletal remains found in an abandoned building in Marion were identified as a man who was reported missing in March 2023.

On March 19, 2023, a missing person's report was filed with the Marion Police Department for 35-year-old Nathaniel Allen Banter.

More than a year later on April 27, the Marion Police Department and Grant County Coroner's Office were called to investigate skeletal remains found in an abandoned building in the 2900 block of South Adams Street, near West Washington Street.

According to the coroner's office, DNA confirmed the biological match between a rib bone found at the scene and a swab from one of Banter's immediate family members.

A forensic pathologist examined the bones and determined foul play is not suspected in Banter's death. The coroner's office said drug-related artifacts and paraphernalia were found near the bones.
