Shooting victim pleads for information to help arrest friend's killer

One man was murdered and another wounded in a shooting at an east Indianapolis garage last July 4 weekend.
Sharrod Crowe was shot and killed by a burglar last July 4 weekend.

The survivor of a double shooting is speaking out about finding his best friend's killer.

The suspect is a burglar the man and his friend caught in the garage last July 4 weekend. It happened near East 16th Street and DeQuincy Street, where 44 burglaries have been reported in just the last six months.

For the safety of his family, the shooting victim, Robert, asked not to show his face. But he wants the person caught who shot him multiple times and killed his best friend, Sharrod Crowe.

"Five times in my abdomen, once in my arm, once in my leg and I still got a bullet in my side," Robert said.

He is still living with a bullet in his side after the shooting, which occurred after he and his 24-year-old friend rushed to the garage owned by Crowe's mother. The burglar shot Crowe, then chased Robert to an alley and shot him, too.

Robert admits not only to his fear of dying and, worse, leaving behind his wife and kids.

"Worried about my kids and my wife, basically not waking up, just scared. First time I ever been through anything like that," he said.

Metro police say Crowe's murder is still an open case and hope someone will come forward with information that can help find his killer.

At the same time, Robert wants more done. He even compared his case to the police resources devoted to the murder of Amanda Blackburn, a pregnant mother who was murdered during a home invasion last year.

"The lady that was killed with the baby, the pastor's wife. She was found, what about ours?" he said. "Sometimes I wish I would have never went over there. He would not have answered the door, he would still be here. I would have never got shot. I do miss him."

Crowe's family insists people in the neighborhood who witnessed the shooting are ready to talk to detectives and hope others will come forward by calling Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
