Residents displaced after lightning causes fire at Fishers apartment building

FISHERS, Ind. — Residents of a Fishers apartment complex were safely evacuated after lightning reportedly struck their building Thursday night. 

According to a Facebook post from the Fishers Fire Department, firefighters responded to The Woods of Britton apartments, located in the 13700 block of Old Oak Drive, near State Road 37 and 141st Street, on a report of a fire. 

Firefighters arrived and saw smoke coming from the building. FFD says the fire was quickly brought under control and that an aerial unit helped clear the attic. All residents were safely evacuated, but several were displaced. 

An investigation revealed the fire was caused by a lightning strike. 

The American Red Cross is providing displaced residents with temporary shelter.
