Protesters gathered in Brownsburg Thursday afternoon to hold a peaceful demonstrations.
Earlier in the day, young people used chalk to create inspiring and positive message on the sidewalk.
Organizers told 13News they had received negative messages in advance of the event and wanted the community know that what's happening in Hendricks County is for residents, by residents.
Organizers said their purpose is to bring awareness to racial injustice happening within the black community, and said racism can happen anywhere.
"If we don't step up and recognize that and support them, then we're not doing what we should do as a community. Sometimes I think that thought is lost, that it didn't happen to me, it didn't happen here, therefore why would we talk about it. I think that's part of the problem, is that we don't and then it goes on and we allow things to fester in our own communities," said Becky Reich.
A demonstration Thursday in Avon lasted about an hour.
