NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — Doug Hauser is a teacher and a father of two boys: 2-year-old Fred and 7-year-old George.
But in order to watch them continue to grow up, he needs a kidney.
"The sooner I get a transplant the better," Doug said. "I don't know, people can wait for years."
Doug has been waiting for a transplant now for a little more than a year.
About five days a week, he's on home dialysis.
"I worry about being there for my boys. They need me," Doug said. "Fred is my little buddy. I mean he is two and half. I got started late in life – but you don't do that thinking 'oh I have a limited amount of time' or 'oh I'm going to have a catastrophic illness.'"
There may be only person who wants to find a donor more than Doug — his wife, Jenny.
Jenny has made it her mission to find Doug a perfect match.
"I mean I would do anything to save his life," she said.
Jenny has made bumper stickers, flyers, T-shirts and even created a "Donate to Doug" Facebook page.
"You just never know who will see that and think that is something that I could do," she said.
In sickness and in health, it is a fight they will take on together.
"You know it's a team effort. We can't do this alone, she said. "And I can't do this life alone. I want him here with me and with our boys and that's why it's so important."
