INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – It's a hot day to be a firefighter.
But some central Indiana kids didn't seem to mind being a firefighter for a day.
The Indianapolis Fire Department kicked off the first day of their "Brian Sanford Firefighter for a Day Camp" at the Warren Township Government Center.
About 200 kids ages seven to 12 will attend each day through Thursday.
They run an obstacle course, learn about fitness, tour the safety trailer and learn how to escape a fire.
"They'll get to wash the truck, which is the non-glamorous thing that we get to do every day," said IFD Captain Aleatha Henderson. "But then they'll get to put out the fires, we have some pretend fires that they'll get to put out and they'll get to search through a smoke filled room to find a baby, so they'll get to see what it's like to be a firefighter"
Most of the children attending are children of firefighters.
