INDIANAPOLIS - IPS has changed their private vehicle transportation policy in response to a crash that killed a student in March.

Our partners at the Indianapolis Star report the Indianapolis Public School Board unanimously passed the measure, which prohibits teachers and staff from transporting students in their personal vehicles. The previous policy only stated the board would not authorize such transportation.

Justice Holifield, a 13-year-old Harshman Middle School student, was killed when a car driven by the school's band teacher, Kyle Bieda, collided with a semi near I-70 and Harding Street. Two other students suffered minor injuries in the crash.

School officials would not confirm to the Star if Bieda had been disciplined for the crash, in which he was seriously injured, but did say he would return to teaching at the middle school in the fall.
