CENTERVILLE, Ind — A child has died in an eastern Indiana house fire Sunday afternoon, according to police.
In a Facebook post, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said around 3 p.m. Jan. 28, dispatchers began receiving calls regarding a fire at a building in the 4700 block of South Centerville Road in Centerville.
First responders were told at least one person was trapped inside the burning building. Several first responders began fighting the blaze as others attempted rescue efforts.
Unfortunately, a young child was pronounced dead at the scene. The age and identity of the child has not yet been released.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal and Wayne County coroner are investigating the incident.
Centerville is roughly 70 miles east of Indianapolis.
