INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a person died following a crash on Indianapolis' west side Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 7:45 a.m. Jan. 3 near the intersection of West 21st Street and North Country Club Road.
An IMPD spokesperson said preliminary information indicated a driver traveling eastbound lost control and their car struck a utility pole. A passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
"At this time, it is unclear if the passenger died from injuries related to the crash or due to a medical emergency," the spokesperson said in a statement.
The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the person's exact cause of death and release their identity once family has been notified.
The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw, which is standard procedure.
