CARMEL, Ind. — The husband of a Carmel woman who was last seen in February 2022 is now out of the Hamilton County Jail for a second time.
Xavier Breland was out on bond when he missed a hearing in December 2023.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Breland was back in jail. He was being held on a $150,000 bond. Breland posted a $15,000 surety bond and was released from the jail Friday, Feb. 2.
His trial for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon is set for April 15.
Ciera Breland (Locklair) was last seen Feb. 24, 2022, in Johns Creek, Georgia. She was visiting family there with her husband, Xavier Breland, their 5-month-old son (at the time), and their dog.
Xavier reported her missing to the Carmel Police Department on Feb. 26, but the FBI said there's no evidence that Ciera ever returned home from Georgia.
Ciera's last known location was 10545 Highgate Manor Court in Johns Creek, Georgia at 7:17 p.m. on Feb. 24. She was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan with a Georgia license plate TMB5869.
The FBI has been working with both the Johns Creek Police Department and the Carmel Police Department in the investigation. Law enforcement officers have not yet ruled out foul play in her disappearance, and Xavier has been named as a person of interest in the case.
The unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon charge stems from a gun going off in the Carmel home where Breland was staying. It happened on Feb 28, 2022 — two days after Ciera was reported missing.
According to court documents, Xavier told police he was moving a Christmas tree in the garage when he heard a gunshot and ran.
According to the arrest report, police found a gun on the garage floor, as well as a magazine with ammunition, a gold-colored bullet and bullet fragments.
Police said they also found two more handguns, magazines and ammunition in the home.
Xavier was booked into the Coweta County Jail in Georgia on March 16, 2022, after being extradited from the Hamilton County Jail for aggravated stalking. In August 2022, he was found not guilty. The case is not related to Ciera's disappearance.
