Hundreds of police officers and other mourners have gathered at a northwestern Indiana theater for a slain patrolman's funeral.
Gov. Mike Pence is among those at Monday's service for 24-year-old Merrillville Patrolman Nickolaus Schultz. The Times of Munster reports others in the crowd include his teammates from central Indiana's Franklin College, wearing their football jerseys.
Those arriving for the funeral passed by Schultz's American flag-draped casket, which was guarded by two uniformed officers. A slideshow of family photos played on a large screen, showing Schultz as a toddler with a baseball glove and ball, in a graduation gown and in his football uniform.
Schultz died Sept. 7, two days after a man wearing body armor shot him during an apparent ambush. Officials say that man then fatally shot himself.
