WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a Purdue University student who was found dead Sunday morning near the airport in West Lafayette.
The coroner's office responded to the 500 block of Allison Road, near Highway 52 and the Purdue University Airport, around 11:30 a.m. Jan. 28 and found a college-aged man who was dead outside.
Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello identified the person found dead as 19-year-old Neel Acharya. The coroner said the manner and cause of death, as well as the toxicology, are pending, but there were no signs of trauma or significant injuries found during the autopsy. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
"Neel was a driven individual and academically talented," the Department of Computer Science said in the email. "Neel could be counted on to reach out to others and make them feel included. He was an achiever and an includer, with his most notable qualities being genuine kindness and unwavering compassion."
The department said Acharya was pursuing a double major in computer science and data science, as well as being a student in the John Martinson Honors College and was a member of the Triangle Fraternity.
"Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family, and we hope they are respected during such a difficult time," Costello said.
Purdue University referred all questions to the coroner's office.
