INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Days like Father's Day aren't always easy for a lot of people, especially if you've got a sick child in the hospital.
That's why the Ronald McDonald House works to make sure the dads staying there are still celebrated on their day.
Just like they did last month for Mother's Day.
The Ronald McDonald House held a special lunch event for fathers who are staying there while their kids are at Riley.
"I'm a step-dad and I have a baby on the way," said Jerid Bodkin. "I just with his struggles and everything I see, and it makes me feel like I'm going to become a better person and I really like it."
The event included a barbecue, the opportunity to meet other families staying at the house, and activities with prizes and giveaways.
"You get to see a lot of things," said Bodkin. "A bunch of different situations and I like that they have done this for people. Not too many people do that."
58 families a day and nearly 5,000 families a year stay at the Ronald McDonald House while their kids are in the hospital.
