Body recovered after house fire in Morgan County

The cause of the fire, near the town of Paragon, remains under investigation, officials said.

PARAGON, Ind. — Officials in Morgan County said a body was recovered in the aftermath of a house fire Sunday morning.

Around 8:15 a.m. Jan. 28, several fire departments responded to a report of a fire with people possibly trapped in the 200 block of Arthur Road, near West Base Line Road and northwest of Paragon.

Crews found a log cabin type home engulfed in flames and partially collapsed into the basement, the City of Martinsville Fire Department said in a social media post. The fire was brought under control in roughly two hours, and one person living at the home was taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire investigators and Morgan County Sheriff's Office detectives located a body after the fire had been extinguished, the fire department and sheriff's office said.
