Here's what Black Friday shopping looks like in central Indiana

It's a holiday tradition for thousands of families across the country that money can't buy.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — The biggest shopping day of the year kicked off early Friday morning. While lines were not as big at most malls and stores, many shoppers still were out early to grab some good deals.

"I got up about 4:00 this morning, to be at JC Penny when they opened," one woman said. "I am pretty tired."

At the Greenwood Park Mall, hundreds were out before the sun was up. Many shoppers told 13News, with a shorter line this year, their shopping experience was quick.

While some were getting things on their Christmas list, others had loved ones in mind.

Even with the freezing temperatures, shoppers said nothing was going to stop them from getting out.

"It was nice, we enjoy doing this every year and it's a tradition for us," one shopper said.

Down the street from the mall, that tradition continued for one family at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

"We are in three different cars today hitting three different stores, it's just something we do every year," one man said.
