LEBANON, Ind. — A 34-year-old man from Chicago is under arrest after robbing a jewelry store and leading Lebanon police on a high-speed chase Saturday evening.
According to the Lebanon Police Department, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Nov. 11, dispatchers received a 911 call from a Kay Jewelers located at 2438 N. Lebanon St. The caller said a man had stolen an undetermined amount of jewelry and fled southbound on State Road 39.
Shortly after the call was made, a Boone County sheriff's deputy saw the vehicle fleeing and tried to pull the driver over.
When the car did not stop for police, Lebanon police officers joined the pursuit as the suspect then fled northbound on Interstate 65.
According to officers, during the pursuit, the suspect began sticking his hand out the window, motioning to officers.
The suspect eventually hit a Thorntown Police Department vehicle and continued to flee. Officers with the Thorntown Police Department, Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office and Indiana State Police then all joined the pursuit.
Officers eventually were able to box the suspect in and place him under arrest.
When asked why he was motioning to officers, the suspect was quoted as saying, "I was trying to tell you you're not supposed to pursue me."
The suspect is preliminarily charged with criminal mischief, theft, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle without a license.
