GREENFIELD, Ind. — A 39-year-old man died in a shooting at an Amazon facility in Greenfield early Friday morning.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Department said the incident happened around 1:45 a.m. Dec. 13 at the 7114 W. 200 N. facility, near Cumberland.
Deputies arrived and found 39-year-old Isaac Riley, of Indianapolis, lying on the ground after he had been shot. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to deputies, the alleged shooter was in the parking lot with his hands raised to deputies when they arrived.
The sheriff's department said there is no threat to the public, as this appears to be an isolated incident, noting that the shooting "appears to be in self-defense."
The Hancock County Prosecutor's Office will determine if charges will be filed against the suspect.
Austin Stowe, a spokesperson for Amazon, confirmed the location is temporarily shut down as the investigation continues.
When the facility reopens Saturday, Dec. 14, the spokesperson said there will be more on-site security officials.
Here is a statement on behalf of Amazon regarding the incident:
"We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts are with their loved ones during this difficult time. We’re working closely with law enforcement while they investigate this incident."
