INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - With wind chills in the 40's, about 300 workers and company officials gathered outside the main entrance to the sprawling Raytheon operations at 21st and Arlington today to cut a ribbon.
The ceremony marked completion of a multi-million dollar renovation project that has given the building a facelift, and provided internal improvements. Eventually Raytheon will add 250 jobs at the operations.
Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Indiana's Secretary of Commerce were on hand for the ceremony, where they clipped the ribbon marking completion of the project which began in early 2015. About 1,000 people work at Raytheon which has streamlined work on important military projects, which include depot services, manufacturing, engineering development and production.
In a company statement, Raytheon says it is "partnering with state and municipal leadership, the company committed to move operations from two different locations on the east and west coasts into this central site and renovate the facility, generating opportunity for long term growth."
Raytheon makes soldier-worn computers and provides weapon system sustainment along with other services to commercial and military customers. In addition, the company says it has more than 300 Indiana companies supplying parts and services, underscoring the economic benefit this brings to the eastside as well as the entire state of Indiana.
