Columbia City - A northern Indiana teenager admitted as he walked into court that he strangled a 14-year-old girl who was found dead in a wooded area near her home.

Seventeen-year-old Joshua Wright of Pierceton told reporters "yes" when they asked him whether he strangled Kaylin Doggendorf.

Wright was on his way to a Whitley County court hearing Monday, during which a judge entered a not guilty plea for him on charges of murder and rape.

Court documents say Wright killed Doggendorf after he broke into her family's home near the town of Larwill early Thursday. The Whitko Middle School student's body was found Friday night.

Wright told reporters Monday that he regretted what happened and that he hoped to pay his respects to Doggendorf one day.
