About Us

Since its founding in 1957, Central Indiana residents have relied on WTHR Channel 13, the NBC affiliate in Indianapolis, as the leader in local coverage. On August 8, 2019 WTHR was purchased by TEGNA, Inc.

WTHR's broadcast facility, located at 1000 North Meridian Street, officially opened in May of 1982. It was one of the first buildings to become part of Mayor William H. Hudnut's revitalized North Meridian Street corridor. The station houses two broadcast studios that feature the latest in automated studio technologies, including state of the art augmented reality and virtual sets. These investments afford WTHR the ability to tell stories and showcase local productions in a way few stations in the country can.

WTHR's commitment to bring the best local news coverage is clearly visible everyday. 13News is Indiana's News Leader, with a commitment to engage and enrich the lives of the people in our community. WTHR’s exclusive Live Doppler 13 Radar gives residents precious extra minutes to know about the weather dangers around them. Additionally, the station’s award-winning investigative reporting brings to light issues that affect the wellbeing of our neighbors everyday. Further, WTHR’s coverage is available wherever and whenever people need it, whether online, on mobile devices, or even on popular streaming services. All of this is evidence of the station’s commitment to provide the best local coverage possible for its viewers.

WTHR Channel 13, home to 13News, is among the most-honored stations in the country. Its wide range of work, from investigative stories to feature stories to excellence in producing live newscasts, WTHR is recognized with some of the most prestigious and coveted awards in broadcast journalism. Among them: a national Emmy award, national Edward R. Murrow awards, multiple George Foster Peabody awards, multiple Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University awards, plus many awards from Sigma Delta Chi/Society of Professional Journalists. In addition to these awards, 13News has received hundreds of regional Emmy Awards in just the past few years-- more than any other station in the state of Indiana.

WTHR is part of TEGNA, a publicly traded local media company dedicated to serving the greater good of our communities.
