NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Nearly the entire public works fleet of vehicles burned in an early morning fire in New Castle Wednesday. The fire department says the fire spread quickly through the building and crews were forced to evacuate. 35 firefighters from three departments spent most of the night battling the fire. Trash trucks and snow plows were among the vehicles destroyed in the fire. The City of Muncie will be in New Castle this week to assist with trash collection. Fire investigators say damage is estimated to be in the millions due to the building and vehicles being a total loss. The Indiana State Fire Marshal's office arrived on the scene Wednesday to assist in the investigation. No injuries were reported.
