Indiana Avenue closing Thursday for Black Lives Matter mural painting

The project was approved by the City-County Council earlier in the month.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works announced it will be closing Indiana Avenue on Thursday afternoon to begin the process of a painting the Black Lives Matter mural. That closure is expected to last through the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 3.

The project was approved by the City-County Council earlier in the month. Supplies for the mural will be donated by the Indianapolis Urban League, and community leaders will select Black visual artists to complete the street mural.

Detour routes:

  • Traffic headed Northwest on Indiana Avenue should use West Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, 11th Street, 10th Street, and University Boulevard. 
  • Traffic headed Southeast on Indiana Avenue should use University Boulevard, New York Street and West Street.
