Firefighters puts out east Indy house fire, rescues cat; 1 cat still missing

The fire was reported Sunday around 10:30 a.m. near East Washington Street and North Campbell Avenue.

INDIANAPOLIS — A house fire closed East Washington Street and North Campbell Avenue on the east side of Indianapolis Sunday morning as firefighters worked to put the fire out.

The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a report of the fire around 10:30 a.m. Oct. 22. 

Two people were inside the home and escaped, one of whom was checked as a precaution but was uninjured, IFD said.

Two cats were also inside the home during the fire. One cat was rescued by firefighters, and the other is reported missing, according to IFD.

The fire was found to have started in the attic, according to IFD.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
